My name is Laz, and I am an attorney at the Immigrant Defenders Law Center.
I was born in Teixeira de Freitas, Brazil and raised in Kearny, New Jersey. I graduated summa cum laude from Rutgers University with a bachelor's in Materials Science and Engineering. I also hold a master's degree in Materials from Johns Hopkins, where I specialized in biomaterials, polymer chemistry, and nanotechnology.
Before moving to LA, I was an engineer at the medical device company Becton Dickinson, where I worked on the development of a recyclable plastic to replace non-recyclable rubbers in their membrane technologies. Before that, I worked in an immunology and synthetic polypeptide lab at UIUC on the development of a second generation therapeutic for treating multiple sclerosis.
I attended law school at USC, where I was a Gould Honors Scholar and the recipient of the OUTLaw Endowed Scholarship. I previously worked in commercial litigation at Sidley and am now a staff attorney in ImmDef's Children's Representation Project.
In my free time, I enjoy traveling, listening to podcasts, and gaming.
